Dr. Patrick Peavy of OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports First in State to Offer Oxford Cementless Partial Knee Replacement
In February 2025, local board-certified surgeon Dr. Patrick Peavy performed Alabama’s first Oxford Cementless Partial Knee replacement. Partial knee replacement helps alleviate pain in patients with arthritis affecting only one part of the knee. Dr. Peavy is available to see patients in Birmingham at 1801 Gadsden Highway, in Hoover at 118 Mars Hill Road and in Pell City at 41 Eminence Way, Suite A. Patients in need of specialized knee care are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling 205-228-7600.
The Oxford Cementless Partial Knee procedure is pioneering knee replacement care, marking a significant step forward by offering patients a bone-sparing, less invasive solution designed for long-term fixation. This procedure is the first and only cementless partial knee replacement approved by the Food and Drug Administration and available in the U.S. This innovation represents a major advancement in knee replacement technology, offering patients a new option for improved mobility and recovery.
This procedure can offer patients:
- Better range of motion.
- Decreased risk of revision and other complications.
- Decreased postoperative pain.
- Faster recovery.
“At OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports, we are committed to providing area patients with the most advanced orthopedic solutions and optimized results," said Dr. Peavy. “This new partial knee implant offers promising benefits, and I'm proud to bring this advanced treatment option to our community.”
Dr. Peavy attended medical school at The University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson, graduating with his Doctor of Medicine degree as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at The University of Mississippi Medical Center, also in Jackson. During his chief resident year, he scored the highest score nationally (100th percentile) on the Orthopedic In-Training Examination. Dr. Peavy elected to undergo additional training through an AO Trauma international fellowship with Dr. Paavo Rillmann at Spital Davos in Switzerland. He then completed an adult joint reconstruction fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
